Your value proposition, ESG and how to create an explainer vid 🎥
Hey there, Sally from Wondrous here.
How have you been? I’ve had a busy month, not least because of the fundraiser I’m doing - more on that shortly.
In this newsletter, I’ll also be looking at how to find your Customer Value Proposition, social impact for tech companies and the process behind creating an explainer video.
Let’s get started!
Finding your Customer Value Proposition.
Your Customer Value Proposition (CVP - because every marketing concept needs an acronym!) is really important.
Tech companies sometimes assume that the CVP is for the customer’s benefit: a succinct way of communicating what they’ll get if they use your product or service.
But whilst that might be the outcome of working on your CVP, the real beneficiaries are your company and those associated with it.
Want to find your CVP? Here’s what we’d recommend:
Step 1) Research. Stakeholders, competitors and prospects/clients.
Look at the industries served, target contacts, perceived pain points, how your product solves the problem, what value the product brings, main competitors and how you differ.
Step 2) Test. Get feedback from your team, stakeholders and clients. Does your CVP solve their pain points?
Step 3) Finalise. Your finished customer value proposition should include a long-form overarching statement that can be broken down into smaller bite-sized chunks that can be used in marketing messages.
We made a short deck on this. If you want to read it, it’s right here:

Creating an Animated Explainer Video.
It’s always lovely working with a client like Azul, and even lovelier when the feeling is mutual!

Azul offers Java support via its platform, powering the most progressive Java applications and deployments with the certainty of performance, security, value and success.
An explainer video is a great way to distil complex topics (like Java support) into simple, digestible value. That’s exactly what we did for them. Here’s our process for creating a great animated explainer video:
1) The client provides the script.
2) We create a storyboard to show how the video will animate alongside the words.
3) Once the storyboard is approved, we then get the voiceover recorded.
4) With the approved storyboard and voiceover together, we can create the finished animated video.
We know from our clients that videos such as these increase time spent on the website and increase social engagement.

My Fundraiser.
Last month I joined the Sport 4 Life UK Rise Up Challenge. That meant moving for more than 1,000 minutes throughout May, all for a great cause.
I’ve raised £165.00 so far, but even though the challenge is over (I completed it, by the way!) it doesn't mean the fundraising has stopped. If you’d like to contribute to my lofty target of £250.00, I’d be really grateful! Just click here.
Sport 4 Life UK offers a sports-themed development service to young people to empower them with employability and key life skills. Wondrous has worked with them before, and I’m delighted to be raising funds for a cause that has a real, tangible impact on youngsters here in the UK.

Embracing ESG for Tech Companies.
Speaking of impact, I wanted to take a moment to discuss ESG which, for the acronym haters, means Environmental, Social and Governance.
The aim here isn’t to recommend specific ways in which you can incorporate ESG into your campaigns (we do that in the full article, which you can read here.) Instead it’s to remind you that ESG is particularly important for tech companies today.
ESG is not just a buzzword or a checkbox to mark—it represents a commitment to creating a better future for our planet and society. Tech companies have a unique role to play in driving positive change, leveraging their technological knowhow and innovative mindset to address pressing challenges.

Serious FOMO.
My LinkedIn timeline was full of connections at Money20/20 at the start of June, and I’m gutted I wasn’t there!
If you were lucky enough to go, feel free to rub salt in the wound and tell me what I missed out on.
Here’s a snap of me from last year’s event:

How I miss it!
Next month we’ll be reporting back from a client on-site, updating you on our work experience projects and offering some more tech-focused tips.
Until then, have a great June!
